Amazon's Renewable Program turns

Amazon's Renewable Program turns returned and refurbished products into profits

Amazon has developed the Renewable Merchants Program to allow Amazon e-commerce sellers to offer new, refurbished, pre-owned, or unlocked products.  These products come with an "Amazon Renewable Warranty," and are marketed as "Tested and Inspected" to ease customers' doubts about quality.

This article will discuss what Amazon's Renewed Program is, identify new and renewed products and provide information on how you can qualify to sell in the Renewed Program.

What is the Amazon Renewable Program?

Products sold on Amazon Renewed come from trusted sellers who test and inspect items before they are sold.  Not only does Amazon's revolving program offer another profitable source of income for sellers, but it's also great for buyers.  Items sold through this program are offered at a reduced price point while still being of high quality.

Certified refurbished products go through a comprehensive quality control process.  Hence, sellers have to apply and qualify to sell refurbished products.  There are many rules to follow and performance measures to be understood before applying.

What is a refurbished product?

A refurbished product sold on Amazon is one that has been returned to the original manufacturer or third party for analysis and reformatting.  It is then categorized as "refurbished".  This label ensures that what customers buy is as reliable and as good as new without a brand new price tag.

Refurbished products must meet specific criteria for functionality as well as provide full disclosure regarding the condition of the item.  The criteria and conditions are:

  • Internal parts such as batteries, buttons, touch screens, and USB ports should function at full capacity.
  • The outer case of the item shows no signs of wear including but not limited to dents, dents or cracks.

Adherence to quality control procedures requires extensive testing of all components.  Amazon quality control involves testing key features customers use, such as screen resolution, audio, and battery life.

What is the difference between renew and renew in amazon?

Under Amazon Renewed,  you can find two types of used items:  Refurbished ومتجدد.

Refurbished refers to a used product that has been tested, and any parts that do not work are replaced with brand new parts.  On the other hand, refurbished products are also tested and inspected, and any non-functional parts are either repaired or replaced with other working but previously used parts.

The differences are slight, and the condition of either product should be the same - working as new!

Products sold in the Amazon Renewed Program are returned items that have been inspected by third-party companies.  These companies are licensed by Amazon to make sure what the seller advertises is accurate.

How reliable are Amazon's renewable products?

As mentioned earlier, Renewed products must meet certain criteria to be sold on Amazon Renewed;  This ensures that what customers buy is reliable and as good as new without attaching a price tag, thanks to extensive testing.

However, what is sold as Refurbished on Amazon is only certified to be in good working order without any physical damage or defects within reason.  For example, if an item is cosmetically defective, such as showing dents and dents, it may be  re-certified  to look new, but it will not pass inspection if the damages cause internal components to not function properly.

For any other major defects such as defective batteries or what makes an item what it is, the product will not be resalable on Amazon Renewed without first replacing the broken parts with the working parts.

Is renewal profitable?

For e-commerce businesses looking to sell what are typically considered "second-hand" or used items, Amazon Renewed is a great option.  You can offer refurbished/returned products at a higher price on Amazon than other platforms and customers can rest assured of Amazon's 90-day return policy.

In order to be considered for a Renewed Merchant Account, your products must comply with the status of other Refurbished Products and need to pass an inspection by an external supplier.

Next, let's discuss the steps you should take to sell Renewed on Amazon:

Become a seller on Amazon

The first step in selling refurbished items is to join the Amazon Marketplace.  To do this, you will need a professional seller account.  You can apply for a professional seller account online from the  Amazon Merchant Seller Central  Portal.

You will also need identification information and a valid credit card to charge the costs of selling on the Platform when applying for an Amazon Professional Seller account.

After creating your Amazon seller account, you must meet the criteria for recurring selling:

  • Sellers must purchase at least $50,000 of refurbished products within 90 days of placing their orders.
  • Sellers must have sold at least 500 units of Refurbished Products to Amazon during the same 90-day period.
  • Sellers must offer a 90-day warranty on all of their refurbished products.
  • Products cannot be damaged, defective, counterfeit, or deemed by Amazon as "non salvageable" provided prior to being re-certified to look new and sold by the Renewing Merchant Account holder.
  • If your products don't provide a manufacturer's warranty, your brand will need permission before selling on Amazon Renewed.
  • If your brand sells Apple products, you'll need to apply for a special license before selling on Amazon Renewed.

If your products meet all of the above criteria, you can submit your application for a renewed merchant account online from the Amazon Seller Central Portal.

Before applying, you will need the following:

  • A comprehensive inventory of what you offer for sale.
  • Fully stocked stock on hand so your products can be shipped quickly.
  • Ability to process returns as needed.

You will also need to have all of your existing product listings reviewed by Amazon professionals before they are approved.

Apply for Amazon renewal

Once you meet the criteria, you can  apply to become a Revolving Merchant Account holder  .

In this step, you will be asked to provide your business name, legal business address, phone number and email address for contact purposes.  You will also need to provide a tax ID number or what is referred to as an Employer Identification Number (EIN), which you get from the IRS.

After you apply, Amazon will review your application and let you know if it has been accepted within five business days.

After you are accepted, list your products using their Amazon Marketplace ID.  You can find it by logging into your Amazon seller central portal and clicking Inventory > Manage Inventory.  The number will be displayed at the top of the page's menu bar.

To create a listing, go to Sell on Amazon > Add Product.  Your Amazon Marketplace ID will be the so-called Seller ID Number in what you call Amazon ASIN (Amazon Standard Item Number).

You'll need to enter what you're selling in  UPC Product Number format  .  At this point, you will have a master list, which you can use as a template for lists of renewable products in the future.

After inserting, press  the Save  button End  it, and  voila  !

Amazon Renewal Features

Amazon's high seller standard keeps renewed competition low, which means they only want the best of what's on sale.  This higher level means that you will have less competition to sell refurbished products compared to new ones.

With Amazon Renewed, customers can enjoy lower prices.  Buyers who participate in Amazon Renewed are looking to save what they can.  This helps sellers provide affordable products while  maximizing profits on new competitive products  .

Amazon Cons Renew

One of the most common concerns expressed about items that have been refurbished, re-approved from the factory, used or opened box is what they will do to the brand image.

When what you're selling looks like a previous buyer brought it back before it was refurbished and re-certified for sale again, it can affect the image of what you're trying to portray or what it means to be the best at what you're selling.  It's something all e-commerce sellers should consider before selling refurbished items.

Potential issues may arise from how Amazon organizes Amazon Renewed products in search results.  Renewed products appear alongside new products among all returned products in the Amazon search.  Therefore, it can be difficult to distinguish which item has been refurbished, and customers may get confused if they do not see differentiation between the products.

Conclusion

The Amazon Renewed Program can be an excellent way for e-commerce sellers to increase revenue from the sale of items that are usually returned by customers for re-credit and resale.  See how adding a range of used products affects the customer's perception of your business and be prepared to meet Amazon's quality standards.
